The Abyssinian cat, nicknamed "Aby," is a medium-sized cat with a lean, muscular body and a distinctiive "ticked' short coat. They are extremely intelligent, active and playful; They love to climb to high places, often found on top of book cases, cupboards and ledges. Like all cats they love toys, and love to play interactive games with their owners.

Abyssinians love exploring, so are are great for taking on mini adventures using a harness and extendable lead. I use CatVenture Harness as they are very well fitted, comfortable and secure. Like all harness training, its important to train at home in short intervals, let them get used to moving in it and let them get used to it. I have sold kittens that have gone on to have their own instagram pages and oh the adventures they go on is just fantastic, beach, forestry, parks, cafes, even camping,  they are having a great time.

Abyssinians make an excellent addition to any family, they are great with children and other pets, for those that love exotic cat breeds, the Abyssinian cat pairs very well with Russian Blue and Bengals and make ideal companions to these breeds, although to be honest they will blend with all cats and dogs. I have had kittens become best friends with border collies and greyhounds! Abyssinians are social cats so where possible its would be good if they can be provided with a companion.

They thrive on attention and are often described as being “dog-like” in their loyalty and sociability. Abyssinians are not typically lap cats but prefer to be near their humans, following them around the house and participating in household activities. They are known for their vocal nature and will often “talk” to their owners with a variety of chirps, purrs, and meows.

Finally, Abyssinian cats are a captivating and beloved breed cherished for their striking appearance, playful personality, and loyal companionship. Whether bounding through the house in pursuit of a toy or lounging on a sunny windowsill, Abyssinians bring joy and charm to the lives of their human companions. With proper care, attention, and love, Abyssinians thrive as cherished members of the family, enriching the lives of all who are fortunate enough to share their home with one of these remarkable felines.
